A Rough Guide to TB Order Form

Stigma

If you test positive for TB, you may face discrimination from your friends, family or work colleagues.  This may be due to a lack of understanding about the disease.  For many years people died from TB because medical knowledge and treatment options were limited.  This resulted in people being afraid of contact with those with TB for fear of becoming infected.  Since the 1940s, effective treatments have drastically changed the impact TB disease can have on an individual, but some people still fear the disease.  By improving knowledge and understanding most of these fears can be allayed, however, information that is relevant to the UK is limited and often aimed at medical professionals.

If you or someone close to you is concerned about transmission of TB, then the information contained in this book may address these concerns.  Further copies of this book are available if you need them.  In addition your doctor is there to help you.  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them.  Talking openly with friends, family and work colleagues may help to increase their understanding of TB.
