HIV

FIs

Also known as fusion inhibitors.  This is the newest class of anti-HIV drug and includes T-20, which is taken by injection into a muscular part of the body (subcutaneous).

Whereas the four classes of anti-HIV drugs mentioned earlier act against HIV while it is reproducing in a CD4 cell, entry inhibitors are designed to prevent HIV from entering a CD4 cell in the first place.  The entry inhibitor is a drug specifically designed to fit between the HIV particle and the point of the CD4 cell to which it needs to bind to gain entry and therefore prevent this happening.
